Central Salt's medium deicing rock salt is a specially graded salt produced at our Lyons, Kansas mine. Sizing to medium grade offers consistent sizing so salt will flow more freely from a salt spreader.

Rock salt - sodium chloride, or NaCL - melts ice at temperatures down to its eutectic point of -6° F (-21° C). And because the most important variable of a deicer's effectiveness is not air temperature but pavement temperature, rock salt continues to be an effective deicer in many US locations through most of the season.

Central Salt's medium deicing rock salt is extracted from one of the richest beds of evaporates in the Midwest. Our mechanized mining operation uses mobile equipment and conveyors to blast, load and move the product to the surface. Particles are then crushed and screened to specifications.
